Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage is best for giving attention to certain painful, stiff "trouble spots" in your body. The massage therapist uses slow, deliberate strokes that focus pressure on layers of muscles, tendons, or other tissues deep under your skin. Though less rhythmic than other types of massage, deep tissue massage can be quite therapeutic -- relieving chronic patterns of tension and helping with muscle injuries, such as back sprain.
Myofascial Release Massage
Myofascial Release is a gentle therapy, consisting of a mixture of light stretching and massage work. During a session, the therapist will apply hands-on massage strokes in order to release tension from the fibrous bands of the muscles, bones, nerves and joints, by unblocking any scar tissue or adhesion's due to injury in the muscles and surrounding tissues.
The therapist will often use light to moderate traction and twisting strokes to apply the appropriate tension on the soft tissue, and to achieve a full reflex range of the muscle. This slow and subtle technique can be used to unblock fascia and muscle throughout the body restoring total physical harmony.
During fibromyalgia massage therapy, the muscles and body tissues are rubbed and manipulated to reduce pain, ease stress and tension and increase flexibility of the tissues. The therapist uses their hands in a variety of different techniques to perform the massage. The massage strokes used can include kneading, rubbing, stroking and palpating the muscles. Sometimes special massage tools may be used in the therapy to target specific muscle areas. Also, hot therapies may be combined with the treatment. Any technique that involves heat or hot compression is a form of heat therapy. The heat helps to soothe and relax the muscles, making movement easier and free of pain.
